What is sustainability?
To us, sustainable coffee farming means acting socially responsible, environmentally sensitive and economically efficient. Our aim is to avoid inadequate use of natural resources, conserve nature sensitively and guarantee a respectful and fair treatment of all people working on the farm. Nevertheless, long term profitability is essential since only a financially sound farm can achieve its sustainability objectives.
Standards for Sustainable Coffee Production
Our vision led us to establish a set of Standards for Sustainable Coffee Production. They were developed together with GTZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH www.gtz.de) and E.D.E. Consulting (www.ede-coffee.de). To measure the degree of compliance with these principles, long and short term indicators were defined, most of which shall be achieved within a period of 5 years.
